Afhco Winter Drive

The Afhco Winter Drive is a long-standing community upliftment initiative that has been making a meaningful impact across Johannesburg since 2007. Launched as part of Afhco's commitment to inner city development and social responsibility, the initiative began with a simple request to staff and tenants to donate blankets, clothing, food, and essential items for those facing the harsh Johannesburg winter. The response was overwhelming — particularly from Afhco tenants — demonstrating the power of community support.

What started as a small collection in the HR office quickly grew into a large-scale donation drive, with contributions including blankets, warm clothing, toys, food parcels, and household essentials. These donations were initially distributed through the Salvation Army to assist the inner city homeless and underprivileged communities.

Expanding Our Reach Across Johannesburg

Over the years, the Afhco Winter Drive has grown significantly, extending its reach beyond the Johannesburg CBD to support vulnerable communities across the city. Today, the initiative benefits a wide range of groups, including children, families, elderly residents, and animal shelters. Afhco proudly partners with several respected organisations to ensure donations reach those who need them most:

  • Salvation Army Ethembeni Children's Home
  • St Vincent de Paul – Good Shepherd
  • Door of Hope (Johannesburg)
  • Uitkoms Home for Girls (Observatory)
  • Avalon Association Old Age Home (Kensington)
  • Othandweni Family Centre (Mofolo)
  • Orlando Children's Home (Soweto)
  • SPCA Animal Shelter

Making a Difference Every Winter

The Afhco Winter Drive continues to grow each year, driven by the generosity of our tenants, staff, and partners. By providing winter essentials to disadvantaged communities in Johannesburg, Afhco plays an active role in improving lives and supporting those in need during the coldest months of the year.
